4 Tips for Straight Hair

Sleek, silky hair is sexy.

Do you know these four essential tips to keeping straight hair smooth?

  • Use a flat paddle brush. This is the ideal tool for blow-drying hair straight. Look for a brush with wide bristles, as tight ones can tear at tangles.
  • Avoid products that contain alcohol as a main ingredient. Alcohol is drying, and it works well to tame thick or curly hair. However, this can make thin, fine hair clump together which probably isn't the look you want.
  • If you color your hair, use a gentle formula and deep condition your strands. Peroxide. Ammonia. Do these sound like nourishing ingredients? The answer is no. If you dye your hair to make it darker, go for a demi-permanent which uses less peroxide and only deposits color to the shaft. Permanent color is great if you're trying to lighten your hair up to two shades, but it's not always necessary when going darker. Always condition your hair after a treatment.
  • Rinse with cool water. This tip will help smooth the cuticle. Cool water works wonders at making your mane shine. After your shampoo and conditioning, run your strands under the faucet for an added treat.
