Beauty Blunder 11: Blow-dry Madness

Question: My hair is naturally wavy, but I like to wear it straight.  It seems that every time I try to blow-dry it my hair winds up getting tangled and less than silky smooth.  Any tips?

Answer: Yes! Blow-drying can seem like a daunting task, but all you need to make it easier is practice and a  few tips. Since you like to keep it straight, here are three easy pointers to keep in mind when using a blow dryer.

1. Section your hair.  Not only will this keep everything neat, it'll also make it much easier for you to control a smaller portion at once.  Take sections down from bottom to top.

2. Blow down the hair shaft for shine.  You want the hair to sit with a sheen, and that's achieved by smoothing the top of the cuticle by blowing it straight down.

Pro tip:  Use your dominant hand to hold the brush.  You want your strongest hold on hair, not the dryer.

3. Use a flat-iron.  Sometimes it's good to sweep over strands after blow-drying to take shiny hair to the next level.

Remember: Use a product to protect your hair from all heat treatments, as they can be damaging to the cuticle.
